Turn Any Wall Into a Climbing Wall

Movement is one of the most important ways children build strength, confidence, and coordination—and it doesn’t require a gym or playground to happen.

  • Ascend Climbing Panels transform an ordinary wall into a fully modular climbing system designed for active, skill-building play. Built on a grid-based T-nut system, each panel allows for endless route creation, evolving difficulty, and open-ended movement experiences that grow with the child.
  • Unlike fixed climbing structures, Ascend Panels give families, designers, and educators the flexibility to design climbing environments that adapt over time—supporting everything from early exploration to advanced problem-solving and strength building.
  • Designed by educators and trusted in homes, schools, therapy spaces, and commercial environments, Ascend Panels create a foundation for intentional, movement-rich play anywhere a wall exists.

More Than Climbing: Why Movement Matters

At Groh, we design environments that support how children actually develop—through movement, exploration, and repetition.

Climbing is one of the most complete forms of physical learning because it integrates body and brain at the same time.
Every climb asks children to: plan movement steps, solve spatial challenge, evaluate risk and ability, adjust strategy in real time, build confidence through repetition.

Ascend Climbing Panels help strengthen: upper body strength, grip strength, core stability, balance and coordination, motor planning, spatial awareness (proprioception).

No two climbing routes are ever the same. With Ascend Panels, children naturally begin to experiment with different route, test movement strategies, adjust based on success and failure and build persistence through challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ascend Panels are typically used for children ages 3+, but age suitability depends on installation height, spacing, and supervision.

No. Climbing holds are sold separately so you can customize the look, difficulty, and play experience of your wall.

The Groh Shop recommends 10-12 handholds per most panels. This creates paths suitable for all skill levels! The Groh Shop sells holds in packs of 15, so there are multiple options for different climbing abilities.

Yes. The T-nut system allows climbing holds to be repositioned at any time, making it easy to change routes and difficulty levels.

It depends on your space. A standard 8’ wall typically uses a grid of 2–6 panels, depending on coverage and design intent.

DIY installation is not recommended. Because this is a structural active play product, professional installation by a licensed contractor is strongly advised.

No, you CANNOT cut an Ascend Panel that will be mounted with a standard frame, box frame, or wedge frame.

Yes. They are commonly installed in schools, therapy spaces, gyms, and commercial play environments with appropriate structural installation.

Yes. We strongly recommend using Groh Safety Mats or equivalent impact-absorbing flooring under all climbing areas.

The paint brand is up to you! We recommend Floor and Patio, Low Sheen Paint for the climbing panels. Please note that with every layer of paint, the factory applied texture will begin to diminish.
